In order to excite children with a hike it has to offer a lot of fun and adventure. The diverse adventure hiking paths around the valley on the Hochkönig are all fun-packed and popular with our younger guests. Children as well as adults will also learn something at various educational stations along the paths.
Guided hikes
Benefit from the opportunity to take part in a guided hike. Once a week your host Sieglinde Plenk will go on a hike with you and together you will enjoy a lovely alpine snack at one of the huts. Hiking guide Erhard will accompany you several times a week on the most beautiful hiking tours around the Hochkönig.
Karbachalm & Toni’s alp playground
With the Kabinenbahn Karbachalm rail you’re going straight into the beautiful hiking area on the Schneeberg and to Toni’s alp playground. You will already be fascinated by the fantastic panorama view of the Hochkönig while going up to the sunny heights.
The Karbachalm is located on the point of intersection of a lot of fantastic hiking trails close to the mountain station. In this traditional alp, the cooks still cook with real passion. The cook creates national and international delicacies by using good and regional ingredients. After this delicious refreshment, you can go on climbing the 1.939 m high Schneeberg and surely you will forget about the travails of the climb when seeing the magnificent view.
Since 2013 the Karbachalm rail is a certified summer mountain rail. 47 theme mountains all over Austria are part of the “best Austrian summer mountain rails” and are for more than 10 years now a unique initiative for outstanding mountain adventures with quality guaranty in the alps.
Marmot Path
Right at the Arthurhaus, close to the Bergheimat Hotel, you will find the unique opportunity to watch the cute marmots in their natural habitat. A whole marmot clan made the lush meadows their home.
Ant Path
More than 220 anthills spread over only one kilometre and over an altitude of about 80 metres along the Mühlbach Ant Path. The hike mostly leads you through a wonderful spruce forest and you will discover several anthills along the way.
Forest and Butterfly Adventure Path
Along the Forest Adventure Path, which starts at the Naturn mountain station in Maria Alm, a total of 12 stations will take parents and children into the forest world. Learn about various forest animals, plants, fruits and trees with photos of the natural environment. Interactive stations invite you to participate and will satisfy your curiosity.
In Hinthertal you will experience the butterfly diversity first-hand. Visit the Obermußbach pub, which is the start and the finish of this circular walk, for a snack after your hike.
Legend's Hike
Around the Hochkönig a lot of legends have been told for generations. The exact number is 12 and there was a hiking trail constructed for each of these legends. Explore some of them with your children and dive into Hochkönig's mythology with informative boards.
