Follow the call of the mountains
Alpine hikes are only recommended for very experienced mountaineers. If you feel insecure take a professional mountain guide with you. There are some climbing passages to overcome that are sufficiently secured along the sign-posted tours. Surefootedness, a head for heights, good gear as well as enough food are vital; but with the perfect equipment you are ready to go.
Hochkönig main ascents
The summit tour to the Matrashaus hut (2,916m): It starts at the Arthurhauson the Hochkönig above Mühlbach. Past the Mitterfeldalm you walk over a steep road to the lower Ochsenkar, past the impressive Torsäule and towards the glacier. The last part of the way leads you along ropes and ladders. Every Thursday there is a guided high alpine tour up the Hochkönig. A professional mountain guide accompanies you during this unique adventure.
Torscharte (2,294m): ca. 3-hour long tour through the stunning landscapes at the end of the Urslautal (Hinthertal) valley with panoramic views over the Steinerne Meer, the Hochkönig and the Hohe Tauern.
Erichhütte-Taghaube (2,200m): starting point of this 2.5 hour long tour is the Erichhütte hut, which you can reach from Dienten by car of by hiking bus. Stunning views over the Hochkönig glacier accompany you on this mountain tour.
